When it comes to budget make up the first brand to pop up in my head is MUA. As far as I'm concerned their range of products and quality far outshine many other budget make up brands. The value for money is unbeatable and this lipstick is no exception. After a long hunt for the perfect red lipstick, I think that I have finally found my match.
The packaging may not be the most extravagant, but it is simple and sleek, and for a mere £1 that'll do me just fine. As much as I love a bit of pretty packaging just like any other girl, for that price who really cares! All that really matters is the quality of the product within, and oh what a wonderful product it is. I have to admit that for £1 I was expecting a dry cakey lacklustre lipstick, but how wrong I was. The lipstick I chose, Shade 13, is a gorgeous highly pigmented cherry red. I tend to find that cheaper lipsticks never seem to have much colour pay off but this lipstick throws that theory right out of the window.
What I actually love most about this lipstick is the consistency. As you can see in the swatch above it has quite a nice sheen to it, although it does look a tad more like a gloss in these pictures than it does in real life. Instead of being a dry matte lipstick, this lipstick has a nice moisturising feel to it and glides so smoothly onto the lips, making it easy to apply. This is perfect for my dry lips, as it keeps them moisturised and stops them becoming a red flaky mess.
I also picked out MUA's Red Drama lip liner for just £1 too. This is the only red shade of lip liner they offer but it is a perfect match for the Shade 13 lipstick. Having never used an MUA lip liner before I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, as I find some cheap lip liners to be quite hard and lacking in colour, sometimes feeling like you have to scratch it into your lips to get even a hint of colour. I did not have to worry about either of these things though. This is a nice soft pencil, making it easier to apply and giving a nice neat finish. It is also very nicely pigmented just like the lipstick. These lip liners also come with a handy little sharpener in the cap too, making them perfect for on the go.
