Makeup Brush Set, £5.80 - Zaful*

I've always been intrigued by these oval makeup brushes ever since they started making an appearance on social media a while back.  As a beauty blender lover I was a bit reluctant to give them a try, but after seeing more and more great reviews about these types of brushes I thought I'd give them a try.  This set of 4 brushes is only £5.80 from Zaful, making them the perfect little starter set to see how I got on with this type of brush.

This set includes a large oval face brush, a round eyeshadow brush, a large oval eye brush and a small oval eye brush.  Firstly I'm going to talk about the quality of the brushes.  The brush heads themselves are dense and beautifully soft.  The handles however do not feel the best quality but they're sturdy enough making the brushes easy to use, but for the low price I'd say overall they're pretty good quality.

My favourite brush from the set is the oval face brush.  After discovering the beauty blender I didn't think anything would make me stray but I have to admit that I was really impressed with this brush.  The brush is so wonderfully soft and feels lovely on the face and it blends my foundation beautifully.  One of the main struggles I had when using a brush to apply my foundation was that no matter how much I tried to blend it you would still be able to see the brush strokes in my foundation.  This brush blends the foundation across my face perfectly with no streaks whatsoever.

The round eyeshadow brush I tend to use as a blending brush rather than to apply eyeshadow because these brushes are so good at blending.  Then the large oval eye brush I have actually been using as a contour brush.  I find that the size and shape of it especially makes it perfect for using to contour the nose.  The smaller oval eye brush is supposed to be used for eyeliner.  It is a great shape and very sturdy making it great for applying a neat line but I have to admit that I'm not the best when it comes to eyeliner and I'm still trying to perfect the perfect wing with this brush, so if you have any tips please feel free to share.

I know there are lots of these types of brushes on the market now but all in all I don't think that you can go wrong with this set for the price.  Especially if you want to see how you get on with them first compared to other types of brushes.

Mermaid Brushes, £8.25 - Rosegal*

Can we first just take a minute to appreciate how beautiful these Rosegal rose gold mermaid brushes are!  My pictures do not even do them justice!  I have not wanted to use them as they are just so beautiful and I didn't want to get them dirty, but I can't just have them sitting there looking pretty and let them go to waste now can I?!

This beautiful set comes in a set of 6 with 4 face brushes and 2 eye brushes, which for £8.25 is an absolute bargain!  I have to admit that due to the stupidly affordable price I was a little dubious about the quality of the brushes but I had nothing to worry about.  These brushes look and feel so luxurious.  The heads are so ridiculously soft that they are so gentle on your skin and blend products beautifully. The last foundation brush I used was the Real Techniques Total Face Brush (which cost more than this whole set for just the one brush) and as good as it is, it is no way near as soft as these brushes and used to leave my foundation looking slightly streaky.  So I decided to give a Beauty Blender a try and have been using that ever since after deciding I would never use a brush for my foundation again.  When I recieved these brushes though I decided to give the flat top brush a go at applying my foundation and I was wonderfully surprised.  It applied my foundation beautifully and blended it in perfectly with not a streak in sight.  Another of my favourite brushes from this set is the smaller tapered brush.  I have been using this brush to apply highlighter and again it has worked just perfectly, it has such a light touch that it is just perfect for applying a subtle everyday highlight.

I really cannot rave about these brushes enough!  I could go on all day about how beautiful and soft they are.  For the price you really can't go wrong.  They would make a perfect and affordable Christmas present for any beauty lover and look like they cost way more than their £8.25 price tag.  You can get them for even less than this if you use the code RGEN for an extra 10% off.

I'd love to say that I have all these wonderful MAC brushes but to be honest if I was a little bit less useless I'd definitely invest in them.  When it comes to makeup brushes though I am an expert at misplacing them, never to be seen again.  I kid you not I can be using it then I'll put it down to grab something else out of my makeup bag and that sneaky little brush fairy will swoop down and take it.  Now I know many of you probably don't believe in fairies and may think that I am talking absolute nonsense, but what else could it be?  The other reason I don't tend to buy expensive brushes is because, and I am ashamed to admit this, I don't clean them as regularly as I should so when I think they're a bit too grubby to try and clean I just throw them out.  So after a little online, I was going to say window shopping but would you call it screen shopping?, anyway I had a look online and saw quite a few people had Fraulein 38 brush sets.  After a little research I found out that it was a German brand which was only set up in 2009 that sells a variety of cosmetics.  I saw no bad reviews of their brushes and after seeing the price I had no reason not to give them a try.  I ended up getting mine off ebay from this seller for £8.96.
